Railway crossing protection systems:
To arrange traffic interfaces at railway crossings as safe as possible, the WLB has installed safety systems at all important crossings.
All together there are 18 light systems, 7 traffic light systems and 4 half barrier systems.
Train safety systems:
WLB uses Siemens DrS signal towers system for its trains safety systems, which is a relay tower system. The route is divides in 6 parts. On the route from Schedifkaplatz to Vienna/Opera and Baden Leesdorf to Baden Viadukt, streetcar regulations are abided to.
Power supply:
The power supply for travelling en route is made available through ten electric rectifier systems. The feed-in sections are divided by a length of 2,5 kilometers. The electric rectifier systems transform the current from 10 or 20 kV middle current to about 620 V~. After the rectification trough a bridge, an open circuit voltage of about 1000 V is reached.
The WLB owns a catenary net to carry the energy from the rectifier systems to the motor coaches. It´s composed of 48,8 kilometers of chain railway catenary, 3,6 kilometers of single railway catenary, and 0,8 kiolmeters of dual railway catenary. Additionally, a 1,9 kilometers long strengthened catenary equipment is installed to supply the area around Baden with enough energy as well.
The overhead contact system is carried by a about 1150 masts.
34 switches are installed along the route to be able to separate different feed-in sections and control them current-free in case of a disruption.
Communication system:
In the beginning of 2002. WLB implemented the new digital bundled radio system called TETRA. This system makes speech and data communications with a datarate of up to 28,8 kb possible.
